Ricky Swallow, ordinarily unfamiliar
Born in Australia in 1974, Ricky Swallow Lives & works in Los Angeles, Californ-i-a.
Over the years his focus has evolved and altered across a range of disciplines and mediums including watercolour on paper and moulded plastic.
The below works are made predominantly out of Jelutong wood and epoxy resin. Similar to Fabio Viale’s marble sculptures, I love the use of a common medium used to fashion common objects in a manner that completely subverts the ordinary.
It’s his usual pop culture tip-of-the-hat that I feel brings these pieces to life. Nothing says i love you quite like a skull in an Adidas hoodie or a bird in a Gola sneaker.
